Jenna Gets to Demo Some More

I feel best about demolition.

I think it’s because you don’t really “wreck” anything when you are tearing it apart. I don’t need special skills, it’s just manual labor. So I feel I can really get “into” a demo.

Yuck! Getting ready to tear off the horrible off-yellow siding.

For all the months we haven’t been demo-ing, I forgot the thrill and the exhaustion that comes along with tearing something apart. This time, it was the ugly ugly ugly ugly ugly siding. (Seriously…a person could NOT have picked a less attractive siding for a house)!

So I got up on the ladder and began on the north side of the garage. Crowbar, hammer and tiny pry bar. A few times I dropped the crowbar on myself. One time, it hit my hand pretty hard and I had to “walk it off” as they say.

Then I began the east side of the garage/porch. Because the siding was also slightly attached with caulking around the front door and garage door moulding, it was a bear to rip through. I have the bruises on my legs to prove it.

Apparently, the porch didn't want to let go of its siding.

I became so frustrated, at one point, that I broke down crying and had to sit out behind the shed for a little while to regain my composure. (I think, in retrospect, sometimes doing physical labor is just cathartic and makes one more emotional-like music).

Three days later, I had all the siding (except for the very top pieces on the north side where the ladder would not reach) off. So I re-tar papered the east side. (The paper was in poor shape and there were LOTS of dead bugs hiding beneath the paper).

Now the garage is the only thing that remains of the worst colored house in the history of houses.

Newly tar-papered!
